American Garden Award

Rotary Botanical Gardens has again been selected as one of only twenty-three prestigious public gardens to participate in the 2011 American Garden Award.

By participating, Rotary Botanical Gardens will display seven new varieties that some of the world’s most prominent breeders have selected to compete in this program.  Once these flowers have established themselves in their designated display area, visitors to the Gardens can view the flowers then vote on the one they feel has the most appealing garden characteristics.

The seven entries for 2011 are:

  • Dahlia ‘Dahlinova Hypnotica Lavender’
  • Dianthus ‘Kahori’
  • Ornamental Pepper ‘Uchu’
  • Petunia ‘Easy Wave™ Neon Rose’
  • Petunia milliflora ‘Picobella Rose Star’
  • Scaevola ‘Surdiva® Light Blue’
  • ‘SunPatiens® Variegated Spreading White’

Voting is open through August 31st, 2011 and winners will be announced in September. For those interested in voting there are three ways to do so:

  1. By texting a given code to a polling number
  2. By going to www.americangardenaward.com and clicking on the voting button
  3. By using postage-paid voting postcards located at most gardens.
