Each year Rotary Botanical Gardens highlights a type of vegetable and grows as many varieties as we can fit in! In the past there have been heirloom tomatoes, heirloom eggplants, heirloom sweet peppers and basil. One year we had over 200 types of hot peppers.
In 2010, we are featuring 20 varieties of heirloom cucumbers and 25 varieities of ornamental gourds. The cucumbers are growing on short triangular trellises, which allows for the fruit to hand down on the inside for easy picking. The gourds are growing on 8 foot towers. All of these vegetables (and more) are sold at our spring plant sale held at the Horticulture building each May.
