Due to rainy weather yesterday, we had to cancel the Holiday Light Show (HLS) for Sunday night. However the first two nights (Friday and Saturday) saw close to 6,000 folks (total) come through the HLS which is a nice number for two days. We’ll be heading in to a seven day stretch of the HLS from this Thursday, December 17th through the following Wednesday, December 23rd. We’ve had lots of compliments on the show and the “flow” is working better both inside and outside even for these large crowds. See rotarygardens.wpengine.com for more information on this event and consider pre-purchasing your tickets so you can take advantage of “express entry”!
This blog includes just a few of the many neat petunias I saw this year at trial gardens. Above is the variety ‘Cascadias Violet Skirt’ which catches the eye. I’ll never tire of petunias. I believe most of these are sold as plants and are vegetatively propagated (you wont find seed for these). For a sunny, hot spot….petunias are pretty awesome and the color gamut is increasing each year as we now see true black and are getting close to a true orange. Their potential in containers and baskets is limitless as well. Regardless, enjoy this collection.
The rain continued through today but we had a nice cozy turnout at the Horticulture Center. Dave, Jim, Vern and Ron Y. worked on carpentry projects while Dr. Gredler did some painting. Big John and Dick H. worked on servicing equipment while Lloyd did some sanding on a bench that really needed it. Maury ran more errands and Gary was in as well. We also saw Bev D., Rollie and some others today.
