The Caladium Collection is really filling in nicely with recent heat and rains. These tropical plants with colorful foliage have long been favorites for the partly shaded border or container. Caladiums (Caladium sp.) can actually tolerate quite a bit of sun if given ample moisture and good soils. Our collection of 60+ varieties is in quite a bit of sun but has been kept happy. This is a great time of year to visit the gardens to see this collection, the Giant Aquarium, Heirloom Garden, Hummingbird Haven, pink border and All-America Selections themed entrance gardens.

Our volunteers continue to be such a huge help, even in these dog days of summer. Above are Kathy (left) and Eva in the tropical garden where they continued their weeding efforts. Kay was in later to tidy up her assigned garden area in the shade garden and did the usual excellent job. Magda weeded and planted in her assigned garden area (see below). Ray continued some edging efforts at the Horticulture Center while Bill O. did his mowing rounds. Larry O. worked on finishing cleaning and filling the sunken garden pool and moved on to equipment repair and watering. Dick H. was in for some repair work as well and Vern came in for some sign painting duties. We also saw Maury and many others today.
