Delivery Day!

IMG_5068

This blog is in a new format so bear with me as I adjust after using a previous format for over eight years!  After some rain this weekend, we had a busy day today under overcast skies.  We had two deliveries arrive for the Spring Plant Sale which included our perennial selection (seen above) and our shrubs (seen below).  There are lots of awesome selections and they will be at a very affordable price!  We also made a trip to pick up some more plants as well.  We’re in the home stretch for preparations for the sale.  See our website for more details regarding this fund raiser as well as some vegetable lists to start marking down your favorites.  We have a very strong focus on heirloom tomatoes, hot peppers, herbs and a wide range of other vegetables in addition to the goodies previously mentioned!

We had some great volunteer assistance today.  Lloyd, Alan and Ron R. were working in the arboretum but also helped unload our deliveries.  Dick P., Maury, Vern and some other Grumpies continued work on the Giant Aquarium (see below).  Ron Y., Dave T. and Gene all had projects and Ron P. continues to test and repair lights.  Dr. Gredler did some mowing and painting.  Kathy, Eva and Shirley H. (welcome back!) did some excellent tidying out in the gardens.  Gary worked on producing labels and had some help from Bev D. and Deb G.   Janet M. helped later in the day and we saw many others today as well.

Our grounds staff was excellent as usual.  Big John and Cindy went out to pick up plants while Terry and Larry helped unload deliveries.  John and Terry had lots of other duties in the plant sale and gardening tasks like rototilling , etc.  Cindy did an awesome job of tidying the entrance garden as we have a huge event tomorrow and the front garden with tulips (Tulipa) at peak looks dynamite.  Larry had more mulching and plenty of watering in the plant sale area as well.  I’m bouncing between many projects and have lots of other projects that need to continue even as we prepare for the Spring Plant Sale.  We have our Garden Art Project to prepare for installation as well as the 2017 Calendar Contest.  That’s not to mention the many thousands of plants that will arrive at the gardens next week for our own planting projects!
